Borrowing Guidelines

Loan Periods
Fines

A library card will be automatically blocked when a patron accrues $10.00 in actual or projected fines, has 10 or more items overdue, or unreturned items that are 60 or more days overdue.  A blocked library card must be cleared in order to resume checking out items.

Harrington Park items that are lost must be paid for in Harrington Park.  Patrons have the option of purchasing a new replacement of the exact item on their own or paying the price listed in the library computer system.

Lost or Damaged Items

If you lose or do not return any material, your library privileges will be suspended until you pay the replacement fee(s).

If you find the item(s) within 14 days of payment, we will refund your money less $5 for processing.

Material returned in damaged condition is treated the same as lost material and the Library must be reimbursed for the replacement cost.

Household Block

When patrons have material that is more than three months overdue, the circulation program automatically blocks them from using their library card. At this time a letter is sent to the patron (or parents in the case of a minor) notifying them that their entire household has been blocked from using their library card in any BCCLS Library. All household fines and fees must be cleared up in the Harrington Park Library before the household block is removed from the record.

Reserves/Requests

Requests can be made:

  • on your computer through the BCCLS homepage at www.bccls.org (you will need your password to do so)

  • on the telephone at (201) 768-5675

  • in person at the Library

Renewals

Library material can be renewed twice (adult collection) & four times (children’s collection) unless another patron is waiting. You can go online to the BCCLS homepage under “My Account” and renew your materials through your online account (you will need your password to do this) or we can renew them for you either by phone or in person at the library. You can also renew out-of-town materials, although loan periods and the number of allowed renewals will vary depending on the item's home library.
